Meet the team

Andrew Walters

RiverCare and BeachCare Programme Manager

"It's been a real pleasure to work with so many dedicated and passionate volunteers and to support them in making a big difference to our region’s waterways. As a keen canoeist and dinghy sailor, spending time on our rivers and estuaries allows me to experience the incredible water habitats we have in the Eastern region but it also reminds me how fragile they are and the work we can all do to save them’"

David Wallace

RiverCare and BeachCare PROGRAMME OFFICER

"Our volunteers are inspirational in looking after the areas where they live by picking up litter and it is great to see the difference they make. Removing litter from our beaches and waterways is so important and benefits us all. I love being part of the team that educates communities by helping to restore habitats and by showing off the fantastic wildlife we have on our doorsteps"

Catherine Holborn

RiverCare and BeachCare PROGRAMME OFFICER

"It's an exciting time for me to join the RiverCare Team; with the pollution of oceans and rivers by plastics gaining momentum in the media, more and more people are becoming aware of the value of clean and biodiverse water habitats. Our volunteers are leading the way in making a difference; their enthusiasm and passion for the Project is infectious, and their hard work in litter picking and habitat restoration inspires and educates communities across the region.  I'm looking forward to working closely with and supporting the RiverCare and Beachcare groups as they continue to grow"

Lynsey Stafford

RiverCare and BeachCare PROGRAMME OFFICER

"I love being outside and close to nature. Taking action to improve and protect habitat is so rewarding, and I love sharing that feeling with volunteers. Everybody should have access to their local wild places and the opportunity to help improve and keep them in the best condition possible, so I am really looking forward to working with RiverCare groups"

Andrew Walters: Andrew is the RiverCare & BeachCare Programme Manager and the project’s founder. Andrew led the very first RiverCare clean up with eight volunteers in Cambridge. Watching the project grow over the years has been an inspiration to him.

David Wallace: David is our Programme Officer for RiverCare and BeachCare based in Essex. David joins us from Floramedia with a background in horticulture and conservation. David has lived in the United Kingdom and Bermuda where he worked with National Trust volunteers and participated in marine surveys and beach clean programmes. He has experience with a broad range of conservation projects and helped to restore habitats after flood and hurricane damage. He also set up a nursery to propagate native and endemic plants as part of a reforestation plan.

She has a background in the practical management of wildlife habitats, working with various conservation organisations across Yorkshire, and most recently as a Ranger on Hadrian’s Wall for the Northumberland National Park. Catherine works with RiverCare and BeachCare groups across Lincolnshire, engaging volunteers and community groups to achieve less pollution and more biodiversity on their local beaches and waterways.
