As we head into the second national lockdown of the year, we are reflecting on what has been achieved by groups since the last was lifted back in June. Despite the challenges of running litter picking events during a global pandemic, our RiverCare and BeachCare groups have been doing an admirable job. RiverCare and BeachCare #LitterHeroes have been walking riversides, towpaths, seafronts and promenades to make sure that their environment and communities are kept tidy. The Great British September Clean was a particular highlight, which saw 163 of our volunteers heading out for small socially distanced clean ups and collecting almost 400 bags of litter! Take a look at this video we made in celebration of their achievement, and see some of the unexpected items they hauled out of rivers and cleared from beaches across East Anglia... Finally, we want to give a special shout out to Heybridge Basin RiverCare in Essex who during just one event managed to bag 297 cans and 289 plastic bottles! An extraordinary number and a new standing RiverCare and BeachCare record. Will anyone beat it next year?
